We have put together a list of BELL EQUINE'S HHP top tips to get the very best out of your Horse Health Programme (HHP) subscription. Should you have any queries, do not hesitate to contact us and we will be happy to help.

  • Do not leave signing up to HHP until the day of your appointment or only a couple of days before. If you sign up on the day of the appointment and are having an annual vaccine on that day, next year's vaccine will not fall within your yearly plan. With competition bodies requiring vaccinations to be given within 365 each year. It will not take long for your vaccine to fall outside of that year’s plan.
  • Money saving tip: if feasible take the plan out annually and save an extra £12.00 per year (more if you have multiple horses on the plan).
  • Where possible book your horse’s dental exam, annual vaccination and health check on the same day, this way you will save money by paying only one call out fee.
  • Once you have received your health plan kit, please read the guide carefully. This will inform you when best to use your worm egg count tests (WEC tests). Do remember only one WEC test is needed at a time (no need to fill all four and send them in at once as you will use up all 4 WEC tests needlessly and have to pay for more to be sent out).
  • Where possible, collect your tapeworm saliva test (TWST) or wormer (if required) from the clinic.  This will this will save a small amount on postage and can speed up receiving the items.
  • If friends or family are collecting items on your behalf, do please call in to request the item so it can be ready for collection and give your permission for the named person to collect.
  • Don’t let your tape worm saliva test (TWST) go to waste! Make sure to request your TWST each autumn as per the HHP guide.
  • If you are storing the TWST for a while, store in a cool dry place, out of direct sun light.
  • Only one TWST test comes with the subscription per year - don’t lose it!
  • Always take your time and care when taking the TWST, some horses do not particularly like it, thinking they may be receiving a wormer! Make sure they are restrained (with a head collar or bridle), take care do not drop the sample pot or spill the liquid from the test.
  • Where possible have an extra helping hands. Feel free to ask for advice if needed before taking the TWST. There is a very helpful video on YouTube on how to take a tapeworm saliva test.
  • If you have multiple horses on the plan, make sure you use the correct TWST - each horse has its own individual bar code, so to avoid confusion or delays with results, make sure to use the right test for the right horse.
  • Take care in not to let your direct debit lapsed, this may end in a shortfall payment.
  • Ensure you keep your account with us up to date, staying out of account arrears, as per the HHP terms, your benefits and discounts can be suspended until the account is up to date.
