A purpose built in-laboratory in the centre of the Bell Equine Hospital supports the vets and all the horses under our care.

The advantage of our in-house lab means that we can obtain urgent laboratory results quickly, most being completed the same day and for those emergency cases, even during the night.

We can run most haematological and biochemical tests on blood samples, as well as some hormones such as insulin. We also perfomr other investigations such as cytology on tracheal wash samples, checking for ringworm and worm egg counts on faecal samples.

Samples are not just submitted by our own vets, but can also be brought in for quick answers for emergency cases from other practices.

Many clients submit faecal samples to us for faecal worm egg couns to be performed on a regular basis. We offer a discounted fee for bulk samples so that a whole yard can check the effectiveness of their worming strategy.

Using our knowledge of individual stables, our vets can then advise whether or not horse's should be treated. Many yards that have regular faecal work egg counts carried out, find they can dramatically reduce the number of worming treatments required. Worm egg count kits can be ordered from our lab and posted out.
