Bell Equine has joined a number of organisations involved in the health and wellbeing of horses in joining the Equine Veterinary Surveillance Network (EVSNET).

EVSNET collects electronic health data from a large number of veterinary practices and laboratories across the UK. Information is analysed by researchers to help improve the health of our horse population. EVSNET is a collaborative project being led by the University of Liverpool Veterinary School, and Bell Equine Veterinary Clinic has been closely involved with its development.

All of the data is anonymised, and will be used with the aim to:

  • Monitor disease trends
  • Identify populations at risk or health issues / diseases and monitor treatments and outcomes
  • Provide data resources for those working in horse health and welfare
  • Improve public awareness of equine diseases and prevention

In the future, the data provided will be used to understand why horses get certain illnesses and why they might be more likely to suffer from a particular disease. It will also build a picture of the different diseases experienced by horses and where they tend to appear in the country. With this information, we hope to understand disease patterns and improve management and treatment of diseases, along with reducing the risk of horses getting diseases in the first place.

EVSNET will collect anonymised data from Bell Equine, including general information such as breed, age, sex, vaccination status and weight, along with specific veterinary information on the nature of the condition they are being seen / treated for. Identifiable data such as names, addresses or personal data will not be collected, and any information in consultation notes which may allude to identification is removed automatically.

If you wish to opt-out, owners can request for data to be removed by completing an opt-out form or ask us to do so on your behalf.
