During January and February 2025, we are going to be holding RESPIRATORY CLINICS at the hosptial every Tuesdays .
Do you have a horse that has a new persistent cough or increased respiratory rate or effort? Could your horse have equine asthma? Do you have a horse with equine asthma (or suspected) that is no longer responding to previously prescribed medications or management changes?
The clinic includes:
- History and clinical examination with specialist
- Sedation
- Video endoscopic examination of the airways
- Tracheal wash (collection of fluid from the windpipe under video endoscopic guidance)
- Bronchoalveolar lavage (collection of fluid from the lower airways in the lungs)
- Microscopic analysis of the tracheal wash and bronchoalveolar lavage fluid
- Bacterial culture of tracheal wash if required
- Ultrasound examination of the lungs
Benefits:
- Diagnostics performed by an Equine Internal Medicine Specialist with continued telephone support for as long as required
- Greater than 50% reduction in cost of all of the above. Cost of procedures with internal medicine specialist, including all lab fees and consumables, £300 per horse.
The clinics are not intended for horses with a potential infectious disease. For example – horses with snotty nasal discharge, increased temperature, increased lymph nodes etc.
