First opinion practice

Bell Equine ambulatory service provides a comprehensive range of veterinary services to our first opinion clients whose horses are stabled within the catchment area of the practice.

Services include routine primary care and lameness evaluations, preventive medicine (eg vaccinations, dental care, routine health reviews etc), pre-purchase examinations (“vettings”), reproductive management of mares and stallions, and emergency services (available 24h/day, 365 days/year).

The ambulatory vets also routinely perform the tests required by the state for the export and import of horses. Our vets are frequently on call for equine events ranging from local horse shows, Point-to-Point races, Pony Club events to FEI events and even the Olympic Games! We are happy to attend any equine patient, be it a racehorse, showjumper, broodmare, pleasure horse, donkey or pet. We always try to send the vet of your choice to you, but in an emergency the nearest available member of the team may need to attend. Most of the initial consultations and advice can be offered at the horse’s stable yard, but, either to suit the client or to use more specialised equipment, we can also make appointments to use the facilities of the Hospital (such as trot-up areas, the sand school, X-ray machines, endoscopes, etc).

Routine appointments can be made via our reception reception team (which is manned Monday to Friday, 8.00am to 6.00pm). Wherever possible, and if convenient to the client, we try to “marry” routine calls in the same area together; this is more efficient for the vets and allows us to offer reduced visit fees. We also offer ‘Area Days’ for routine calls (see below).

We have a designated vet in Bexley every Monday, Wednesday and Friday who can undertake routine visits to individual horses and yards in the area at a minimal visit fee. If you would like to take advantage of this arrangement, please call the clinic to book appointments with as much notice as possible to allow us to offer appointments to suit. We also offer Lameness clinics in the area on a bi-monthly basis for cases needing further lameness investigations.

We have expanded into the East Kent area and have a designated vet covering our ‘Canterbury Days’ with support from the large ambulatory team and back up from the hospital. For further details on this new area covered, please contact the clinic.

We also provide Area Days for pre-booked visits to other areas with reduced visit fees: Meopham, Headcorn, Chelsfield, Sittingbourne / Faversham, Medway / North Kent, Sevenoaks and Goudhurst. These days are very popular and do get booked up, so we advise booking with as much notice as possible to enable us to offer an appointment on the requested day at a time that is convenient.
